He was admitting the opponent's sword had indeed ‘touched' him. when one person managed to thrust his sword into his opponent), the person who had been hit acknowledged it by shouting touché. In this sport, two individuals fought each other with swords, and whenever someone scored a ‘hit' (i.e. When touché was borrowed into English, it was used in the context of a particular sport - fencing. The word is pronounced ‘two-SHAY' with the stress on the second syllable. The following ‘ch' sounds like the ‘sh' in ‘ship', ‘shin' and ‘sheep', and the final ‘e' is like the ‘ay' in ‘bay', ‘day' and ‘may'. Obama, Boehner, Clinton and McConnell, try to work touché a little bit more into your vocabulary. The ‘tou' in the first syllable is pronounced like the word ‘two'. The United States was built on compromise, and the astounding inability of contemporary politicians to give even an ounce of effort into working with the other side, be it Democrat or Republican, is staggering. In a time when political differences means complete and utter gridlock in Washington, the ability to cede ground is invaluable. This idea doesn’t just apply to novel arguments like which Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle is the best (obviously Leonardo), but politicians especially could learn a few things from touché. When someone says touché, they are signifying that their opponent has made a good point, something that they didn’t think of. If that happens, the argument can’t move on. What does touché do to this idea of enlightened debate? One of the most important aspects of a discussion is being able to admit when you’re wrong. ![]() The true socratic method is a type of discussion that heavily focuses on questioning “the other side” to stimulate critical thinking and to actually get somewhere in the conversation, to learn something new and to gain a new perspective. Most students associate with sitting in a large circle in their classroom trying to get a word in the discussion but someone louder than you always seems triumph over you. ![]() ![]() I propose the socratic method of discussion and debate. The “winner” got a chance to stroke their ego, and the “loser” feels dumb. What does this sort of debate achieve? Absolutely nothing. What is a debate? Common convention dictates that a debate is when two people who are on opposite sides of a viewpoint try to outmaneuver one another until they feel that they have proved their point. I know that sounds silly, but hear me out. When two opposing viewpoints meet, it should be a collaboration. Why is this word so beautiful? This word is the culmination of everything a debate is supposed to be.Īll too often, arguments turn into heated shouting matches where whoever is louder “wins.” That is not what a debate should be. In an argument, touché means that you’re admitting that they made a good point, or when someone has made a good comeback. When you hit your opponent in fencing, they say touché to signify a point against them. Or is it French? Well it doesn’t matter, what’s important is the word itself. Touché is the most beautiful word in the English language. ![]()

It’s a complete retelling of the Persona 5 story with a lot of improvements. I can’t fault it too much, since I do enjoy tactical games and love being able to take the time to plan my order of operations.Īll in all, Persona 5 Royal is a lot of fun. It can be frustrating not being able to dodge attacks or rather relying on lady luck to intervene to save your characters. I feel the gameplay is much slower in Persona 5 Royal as role playing games are turn based affairs. Persona 5 Royal makes most of the Palace bosses slightly harder with new phases to deal with and also removes numerous vulnerabilities for enemies such as their vulnerability to certain status effects, including the Reaper (who is now immune to despair, so you have to fight him properly in this iteration). ![]() It’s everything with a few tweaks here and there and a whole bunch of extra content thrown in. The role playing game mechanics are here, the story beats are mostly the same, the character progression is mostly the same and the music and stages are mostly the same. On the whole, Persona 5 Royal is very much the same game as the original Persona 5. It also introduces two key characters to the story, one is a playable character in Kasumi and the other plays an integral part to the expanded narrative. It introduces new quality of life changes from new character portraits, enemies, locations, personas and gameplay changes, such as ammo restocks after each battle and the introduction of Will Seeds in Palaces. Persona 5 Royal is a directors cut of the original Persona 5. It is not impossible.) The protagonist and Morgana interacting in Persona 5 Royal Persona 5 Royal (Who knows if Atlus eventually release a game called Persona 5 Strikers Royal. Kasumi doesn’t exist in Persona 5 Strikers. Persona 5 Strikers almost treats the entire Persona 5 Royal as an alternate universe, e.g. So all the additional stories and characters that were added to Persona 5 Royal are not introduced or continued in Persona 5 Strikers. Interestingly, the story of Persona 5 Strikers does not follow the story of Persona 5 Royal, rather it follows the story of the original Persona 5. If you have never played Persona 5, then you ought to play Persona 5 Royal first to get to know the story otherwise Strikers isn’t going to be as fulfilling a journey for you since the story in Strikers is more of a conclusion or epilogue than anything else. If you have played the original Persona 5 from start to finish, you have the freedom to play either Royal or Strikers. If you are here, you are probably thinking which one should I get or which one should I play first. That’s why like Persona 4, Persona 5 has things like its Royal addition, Dancing In Starlight edition, Strikers (its Dynasty Warriors edition) and Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth (its chibi edition). Notwithstanding its success, the developers of the Persona series Atlus love to recreate their games with new additions or in completely different genres. Unlike Persona 4, I think Persona 5 managed to shoot the franchise into the upper echelon of Japanese role playing games alongside the likes of Final Fantasy, Pokemon and Dragon Quest. The first Persona 5 came out in 2016 to critical acclaim. ![]() ![]() ![]() A recent New Yorker article highlighted the importance of preserving Indigneous languages, stating, “the loss of languages passed down for millennia, along with their unique arts and cosmologies, may have consequences that won’t be understood until it is too late to reverse them. The show does "season bait" in its final episode which sees the introduction of new character Ms. The show also features some really good music and songs, done by Ego Plum, throughout the series with a particular standout piece being the episode "Ghosts Ain't Real" with some really fun and even a little macabre that harkens back to horror themed animation shorts like Swing You Sinners or The Lonesome Ghosts. Aside from the first episode setting up Cuphead owing his soul to The Devil, it's not a primary focus and is more used as an excuse to create comic friction with a recurring antagonist and still allows the cartoons to function as self-contained comic set pieces. Uncommon for this era of streaming, there's not really a "running narrative" compelling viewers to binge the series with each episode about 10 minutes long and being relatively self-contained. The show also gives expansion on the personalities of various bosses and side-characters from the games with boxing frog brothers RIbby and Croaks, Cuphead and Mugman's parental figure Elder Kettle, the trio of freeloading vegetables The Root Pack, and hands down the best character The Devil whose portrayal by Luke Millington-Drake gives a dry affected vaguely British sounding delivery to the character whose explosive rage and frusturation at not getting Cuphead's soul reminded me of David Warner's performance in cult show Freakazoid! As The Lobe who exhibited many of the same traits. ![]() Cuphead and Mugman are fun characters with Cuphead's more carefree irresponsible attitude counterbalanced by the more cautious and unfortunately all too aware Mugman with their dynamic creating solid comic friction as the duo encounter. Some scenes sometimes do break the illusion of immersion such as a party scene in the episode Root Packed where some of the party goers look static and/or floaty on the physical backdrop, but the show's ambition makes up for flubs like that. The environments of the Inkwell Isles are loving crafted with familiar locales from the games showcased and expanded upon for Cuphead and Mugman's misadventures. While the show didn't use the exact same technique due to time constraints, the show still maintains the same aesthetic appeal seen in the games with some great inclusion of stop-motion animation for certain sequences interacting seamlessly with the 2D figures. With creative influence from Studio MDHR and featuring some impressive animation techniques that mostly successfully mirror both the game and its Golden Age animation influences, The Cuphead Show! Is an enjoyable ride through surreal comic nonsense. The game received praise not only for it's engaging "Bullet Hell" style gameplay, but also its impressive animation which utilized many of the animation techniques of its stylistic influences. The Cuphead Show! Is an adaptation of the video game Cuphead by Studio MDHR. The two cups often cause headaches for their caretaken Elder Kettle (Joe Hanna) and are often involved in run-ins with The Devil (Luke Millington-Drake) after Cuphead unwittingly ended up owing is soul to him and rand from the debt. Set in the surreal and fantastical world of the Inkwell Isles, the series follows the misadventure of two young anthropomorphic cups, the brash and impulsive Cuphead (Tru Valentino) his brother the cautious and timid but comparatively more level headed Mugman (Frank Todaro). ![]() ![]() That seems to be the only way to fill up the 30 slots to max out all your stats.ĭoes the game save each Infusion Upgrades you collect?: Yes, the game will automatically save the Infusion Upgrades you just collected if you picked up the Infusion bottle and made your Upgrade choice. A lot of diverse areas that we'll talk about, really dive into those as the show goes on. How do we engage the talent, the creative culture, the urban development, and downtown districts? How do we play a major part in contributing to its growth and being a major involved party there? And then last, which Krista knows a whole lot about, is the area of city growth. We care a lot about engaging deeply with our communities of color, honoring and celebrating the diversity in our broader community as well as on our campus. Cultural wealth and diversity is the fourth category. We do it in health and education, which are important, crucial social issues that we want to be a major partner in. We see a research university as an engine for change, for job creation, but also as a partner in business growth in our community. And so whether it be, how does Baylor as a Christian research University engage with its local community, whether it's classes, teaching, education, donations, sponsorships, working with nonprofits, how do we pull the university out into the community? And then likewise, how do we draw Baylor, its campus into the Waco community more where the local folks feel like they can engage? The thing that’s really frustrating for her, and what was really brilliant, was the things that really annoy her. I had a scene where I had to walk into the building and I remember thinking how great she feels in that uniform, like everything about working for the Empire is everything that she wants. And she wants to really make her mark in this industry of the Empire. “I think Dedra is so proud of herself that she's working in this incredible organization. So yeah, I'm getting a real thrill being able to play her.” I mean, I do kind of love that you're thinking ‘Oh, go girl,’ and then you remember she's in a fascist organization. I love portraying the effect that power just has on a person– the danger of that pursuit of power and control, regardless of gender. They're sort of outsiders within the ISB. Soller also commented on Andor’s intricately detailed production design. So really, what Tony created– having a character that wasn't really sure about himself– was what made it the most fun to play.” And he finds a place to be seen if he can supersede his station and climb those ranks. He came from a place of such lack– it's such a pain in his home life that he's trying to fill this void within himself through the fascist, corporate, bureaucratic structure where he finds order. He could go into the Empire he could go into the Rebel Alliance. “He had created a character that was really three-dimensional and had a big question mark over him– he could kind of go either way. “What attracted me to the role was Tony writing,” says Kyle Soller about why he accepted the role of Syril Karn. Soller and Gough recently participated in a virtual press conference in promotion of Andor, in which they both discussed their intriguing roles in the series. Next month two new villains will be introduced to fans of A Galaxy Far, Far Away via the new Disney+ live-action series Star Wars: Andor– Deputy Inspector Syril Karn (portrayed by Anna Karenina’s Kyle Soller) and Imperial Security Bureau Supervisor Dedra Meero (Denise Gough from the 2010 version of Robin Hood).
